Be prepared for the festive season

NHS Kent and Medway is encouraging patients to plan ahead to help ease the pressure on health services over Christmas.

Winter is a busy time for the NHS and while it's important to come forward with any health concerns, you can help ease the pressure by choosing the right service.

Make sure your medicine cabinet is fully stocked with the basic essentials, such as paracetamol, ibuprofen, indigestion treatment and antihistamine, and order repeat prescriptions in good time so that you don't run out.

Choosing the right service

Get advice from your pharmacist at the first sign of feeling ill - don't wait for it to get more serious.

When you need medical help fast but it is not an emergency, visit 111.nhs.uk  or phone 111.

Urgent treatment centres and minor injuries unit can treat many of the most common ailments people attend emergency departments for, including sprains, minor burns, and minor illness.

Mental health support

If you are looking for support with your mental health and wellbeing for you or someone you care for, visit Kent and Medway's mental health and wellbeing information hub

You can also contact 111 if you need urgent mental health help. If it is an emergency and someone needs help to save their life, call 999.
