What we do

We plan and commission health services for people across Kent and Medway.

We commission primary care, community, mental health, hospital, urgent and emergency, maternity and women's health services, working with partners to improve health outcomes, reduce health inequalities and deliver high-quality care.

We are funded with public money and have robust processes in place to make sure this money is spent properly.

Commissioning intentions

Our commissioning intentions set out how we will improve health outcomes for local people and make the best use of NHS resources. You can either read them in full or read the shorter summary. Underpinned by our four layers of care model, they describe how we will shift towards prevention, neighbourhood health and more joined-up services, while ensuring specialist hospital care is available for those who need it most.

Shaping the future of health and care in Kent and Medway

NHS Kent and Medway is responsible for planning and commissioning health services for around two million people.

We are evolving into a strategic commissioning organisation, focused on improving population health, reducing inequalities, securing better outcomes and making the best use of public resources.

Our work is guided by a clear vision for health and care, supported by our Five Year Strategy, annual commissioning intentions and oversight from our Board. Together, these ensure that NHS services continue to meet the needs of local people in a changing and increasingly challenging environment.
