The NHS in Kent and Medway has issued advice for families ahead of the autumn break.
With the school half-term approaching, doctors are encouraging parents and carers to know where to go for health help.
Coughs and colds are common from this time of year, but parents should remember that antibiotics aren't usually the answer. Plenty of fluids and rest should be enough to help fight off germs and symptoms will usually ease within five to seven days.
Make sure your medicine cabinet is well-stocked with essentials like paracetamol, cold remedies, and a thermometer. If you're planning a trip away, collect your prescription medications in advance and take them with you.
If you or your children are not well, get advice from a pharmacist at the first sign of feeling ill - don't wait for it to get more serious.
For more serious issues like suspected broken bones, sprains, minor cuts, burns, or scalds, visit an urgent treatment centre.
If your child has asthma, make sure they see a healthcare professional once a year, get their inhaler technique checked and get a written asthma action plan (for school and home). Visit www.SaferAsthma.co.uk to find out more.
Parents can download a handy guide for five to 11-year-olds from our website. The booklet has useful information about health services, vaccinations, and mental health.
