NHS Kent and Medway appoints new chief executive

A man with short blonde hair wearing a blue suit. Adam Doyle has been appointed as chief executive of NHS Kent and Medway. 

Adam is one of the longest serving chief executives in the NHS, most recently the chief executive of NHS Sussex. Adam began his NHS career as a physiotherapist before moving into leadership roles in commissioning and healthcare management. He previously served as chief executive for NHS Merton Clinical Commissioning Group and as director of community services and private care at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.  

During the past nine years, Adam has been instrumental in leading Sussex to become a more integrated health and care system. 

He has also contributed to national healthcare strategy as national director for system development at NHS England for two years. He is a member of Sciana: The Health Leaders Network and a Salzburg Global Seminar Fellow. 

NHS Kent and Medway Chair Cedi Frederick said: “I am very happy that Adam made his wish to join Kent and Medway above all other options and opportunities clear and that through the selection process, we identified him as absolutely the right person to lead our organisation into the next chapter.

“The Board and I are really looking forward to working with him to address our challenges and build on the progress we have made and the opportunities ahead.  

“It is widely recognised that Adam is one of the most experienced chief executives in the country and has significantly achieved at all of the organisations he has led to date, from The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and Merton Clinical Commissioning Group, through to the integration that has been delivered across Sussex.

“I know he will bring this extensive leadership to support NHS Kent and Medway and the wider system to deliver for the benefit of local people.” 

Adam Doyle, designate chief executive of NHS Kent and Medway, said: “I am really honoured to be appointed to lead NHS Kent and Medway ICB at such a pivotal time for the NHS.  

“In Kent and Medway, we have a fantastic opportunity to build on the ambitions of our integrated care strategy, as well as the NHS Strategy for Kent and Medway. I am keen we are at the forefront of developing neighbourhood health for our local communities - it's a key part of the 10-year plan and will help us drive forward the change needed for our population. 

“I look forward to working with our staff, partners, and communities to shape a healthier future '' 

Adam begins his new role on Wednesday, 15 October.
