Cedi to remain as NHS Kent and Medway chair

1 September 2025

NHS Kent and Medway Chair Cedi Frederick will remain in post for a further three years, it has been confirmed today.

The appointment of chairs to integrated care boards is part of a national change process that was announced in March this year, where integrated care boards are being asked to reduce their operating costs by 50 per cent.

Cedi said: “I am delighted to be appointed for a second term as chair of NHS Kent and Medway and look forward to what more we can achieve in that time as we start to deliver the 10-year plan announced by the Government earlier this year.

“I recognise this is a time of real uncertainty for colleagues across integrated care boards, but I commit to being as open and transparent as we have been about the change programme and to making sure the board fulfils its leadership role for the organisation.’’

NHS Kent and Medway is the NHS organisation that plans and buys healthcare services to meet the needs of two million people living in Kent and Medway.

Cedi added: “Making sure we improve health and healthcare for the people of Kent and Medway is why we exist as an integrated care board and we will continue to do this working with partners across Kent and Medway.’’

Cedi’s post was one of a number announced today for the south east.

Following approval from the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Wes Streeting, NHS England has confirmed that Ian Smith will become the chair of Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Sussex Integrated Care Board.

Chairs of clustering ICBs have been appointed following a ringfenced expression of interest process. Start dates will be determined locally.

Priya Singh will remain as chair of both Frimley and Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire ICBs as they form a cluster arrangement. There will also be no change to chairs at Hampshire and Isle of Wight ICB, where Lena Samuels will remain in post.
