Help us help you this bank holiday

22 August 2023

The NHS is encouraging people in Kent and Medway to know where to go for medical help ahead of the summer bank holiday weekend.

The bank holiday period is a busy time for the NHS, but knowing the right place to go can help you get the treatment you need faster.

Follow these simple steps to help save time and avoid an unnecessary trip to A&E:

  • make sure your medicine cabinet is well-stocked
  • check if you need any repeat prescriptions for regular medication
  • keep yourself safe in the sun by drinking plenty of fluids, applying sun cream and wearing protective clothing.

Some pharmacies will remain open on Monday, 28 August to help those looking for help to treat minor illnesses, such as diarrhoea, a runny nose, a cough, or a headache. You can turn up and ask for advice, without the need for an appointment.

Urgent treatment centres and minor injury units are equipped to diagnose and deal with many of the most common ailments people attend emergency departments for, including sprains, minor burns, and minor illness.

Patients can visit a centre without an appointment if they have an urgent condition that needs to be seen on the same day.

Appointments can also be booked by contacting NHS 111 by phone or online. By using NHS 111, patients will know they are going to the right place for treatment.
