NHS Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB) has commissioned additional capacity at Kent and Medway Orthopaedic Centre to make sure even more patients can be seen as close to home as possible. The multimillion-pound centre opened at Maidstone Hospital in 2024 as a dedicated elective orthopaedic facility with three, state-of-the art laminar flow operating theatres in an innovative, open plan layout.
As our communities change and people live longer, this facility enables more patients to choose to receive their care closer to home without having to make longer journeys to out-of-area hospitals.
Kate Langford, Chief Medical Officer for NHS Kent and Medway said, “Patients can choose where to receive their orthopaedic care but local options may not have been available, or may have had longer waits. We are delighted that we have been able to work with Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW) to expand capacity at the centre for routine orthopaedic operations from across the region, so more people from Kent and Medway can be seen as close to home as possible.”
